We experienced something profound yesterday on the Good Life TV set. I was interviewing a Special Olympics athlete named Steve Glick. In my reading about Steve to prepare, I read that he was known to be a leader. So, toward the end of the interview I asked him what a leader does. He paused for several seconds, which can feel longer when you are taping a TV program.

We all waited. He has a little trouble getting sentences out at times. And so we waited.

Then he gave his answer about what a leader does. In one word: "Listen."

That's all he said. No explanation. No example. Nothing else was needed.

Over the course of 18 years with our special needs daughter Ella Claire, there have been many times she's said a lot while saying a little. Just a few words. Like, "Being in a family is important" or "It's good to be together."

Steve Glick's one word on leadership said a lot. No one on the set yesterday will forget his answer. These Special Olympics athletes are sure special.
