Suffering Lincoln

He lost several elections but that was nothing compared to what he personally suffered. Went bankrupt. Was in bed for 6 months with a nervous breakdown. He was 41 when he lost a 3 year-old son. He wept at the foot of a bed in the White House when he was 53 as a second son died at age 11 of typhoid fever—while another son lie critically sick in another room of the White House. 210 years ago, Abraham Lincoln was born. They say more books have been written about him than anyone but Jesus. He was familiar with suffering. I believe suffering has the ability to take us to places we wouldn't otherwise go. To enable us to see differently. I think we can get closer to God and learn things about Him that we can't otherwise. Perhaps it was his suffering that made him the man the country needed at a critical hour.
